Achtergrond
The RA3 project aims to bring parents together with their children and teachers to explore the exciting real worlds of science, technology, engineering and maths. Through fun and stimulating group activities they will find out about and support the ways their children learn while also learning themselves. This website lets those involved share what they've been doing.
Ten secondary schools in the South Yorkshire region are working in collaboration with their feeder primary schools to develop and deliver enhancement activities that are designed to be fun and stimulating. Parents and their children are working together in Family Learning Groups (FLGs) through a range of STEM based topics.

Richard Walton: From Formal to Informal: Researching STEM in Informal Settings. Richard Walton (Centre for Science Education, Sheffield Hallam University, UK) This presentation outlines the developments that have taken place in researching the learning of STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) in informal settings. In so doing it looks at the characteristics that typify such learning and places this into the context of current work being done to promote the more effective learning of STEM with family groups. The paper concludes with a discussion of the effectiveness of such informal strategies both in terms of the formal curriculum and in the attitude change of participants.
