 | | Directions and turns can be indicated in relative or in absolute terms. ?At the end of that street, turn left? expresses a direction relatively to the body, whereas ?walk 500 m to the north? expresses a direction in absolute terms. In the computer programs ?Robot? and ?Koers? and ?helicopter? the students explore these two systems and the way they differ. Students also explore angles as the magnitude of a turn around an axis
You have won the second prize in the \'WillyWonka Bubble Gum Slogan Contest\' which is a trip of 200 km with a helicopter. You start at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol. Of course you have to return to Schiphol before the 200 km are used!
|
Task 1:
Choose a trip of 200 km maximum and check over which cities you can fly.
Task 2:
The are spots in the Netherlands that you cannot reach, because they are too far away from Schiphol. Remember: you may fly no more than 200 km, including the trip back to the airport.
Print or draw a map of the Netherlands and draw on this the area that you can fly over. Describe this area also in words.
